Microsoft Teams is an excellent tool to gather your team members and collaborate on projects. If you or your organization already use it, you are probably aware of the many features it offers. There are many more features than meets the eye, and you can access them by learning some of the following Microsoft Teams tips and tricks.

Save messages to read later

Like web browsers, Teams offers the option to save messages in a separate location. This way you can quickly access it whenever you want without having to scroll through the entire conversation.

  • Find the message you want to keep to read later in one of your conversations.
  • Click on the three dots next to the message and select Save this message
  • Type /stored in the search bar to view your saved messages.

Quick Enable and Disable Do Not Disturb

Team discussions can sometimes distract you from the important tasks you are working on, but turn on do not disturb mode can solve that for you. Once it’s turned on, you won’t get any more notifications until it’s turned off again.

  • Put your cursor in the search bar, type /dndand press Enter
  • Do not disturb should now be turned on.

Enable dark mode in the app

Format your text

By default, the messages you write in your channels and other chats in the app are unformatted. However, there are options to stylize and format your text if you want, and you can access it from the text box.

  • Open the conversation in which you want to write a formatted message.
  • Click on the A icon below the text box and you’ll see all the available formatting options.

Post content to your channels using an email

All of you will agree that email isn’t going away anytime soon, and Microsoft has even included a feature in Teams to help you collaborate across your channels using your emails. You can post to your channels by sending an email from your email account.

  • Find the channel where you want to post, click on the three dots next to it and choose Get email address
  • Any emails you send to the email address shown on your screen will be posted to the chosen channel in Teams.

Hide and unhide channels

If your channel list is cluttered and there are certain channels you won’t be using for a while, you can hide them so they don’t appear in the list. You can then unhide them at any time.

  • Click the three dots next to the channel you want to hide and select Hide
  • To make it visible, click on hidden channel select your channel at the bottom and choose show

Use private channels for private discussions

  • Open a conversation and go to the message you want to read.
  • Click on the three dots next to the message and choose Immersive Reader
  • Click the play button on the next screen.
