Trifo Lucy: first impressions and specifications

There are enough of them robot vacuum cleaners on the market straight away. If you’ve never used any of these gadgets, you may find it difficult to pick the best one for you as most seem to offer the same features. Sometimes it is difficult to choose between the different models of robot vacuum cleaners that one brand offers. Trifo has a different approach: this brand offers a selection of robot vacuum cleaners, each with a specific purpose.

Lucy is part of the Trifo family that has robotic vacuum cleaners specifically tailored to your needs. Emma is the basic robot vacuum for those who don’t want to pay for extra features. Ollie is a vacuum cleaner designed for pet owners, and the Max model is a full robotic vacuum cleaner for home monitoring. Finally, if you want a little bit of everything, Lucy is the most advanced and balanced model of the whole Trifo family.

Lucy is a smart robot vacuum cleaner/mop that uses advanced AI to get smarter over time. That means the more you use Lucy in your house, the more he learns about the environment, which in turn should make the cleanup process more efficient.

Another feature that makes Lucy stand out is the dual-camera system. The 1080P HDR color camera with a Time-of-Flight (ToF) depth camera is used for Visual Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (VSLAM) navigation and smart mapping of your home. This means that Lucy is extremely good at detecting different objects on your floor (no matter how big or small) and won’t get stuck in small spaces around your home. These cameras can only be used to keep an eye on your home while you are away and to keep an eye on your pets.

Lucy by Trifo also has a mop function, but it’s hard to call this model the best robot mop because of the small water tank that you have to refill during cleaning sessions. We’ll go into more detail on this later. But first, here’s a full specs list of the Trifo Lucy robotic vacuum cleaner.

Design & Unpacking

Trifo Lucy follows the same proven robotic vacuum cleaner design that all brands use to this day: it has a round plastic housing, three wheels, a main brush and a side brush. In Lucy’s case, the entire body of the robovac is black (glossy top with matte sides) and a gold ring with two buttons and a logo in the middle. One button directs Lucy to the charging dock and the other is the power button.

One problem with Trifo Lucy being black and shiny is that it easily collects dust and any pet hair on your floor. However, the black and gold color scheme gives it a premium look.

The top of the robovac is also made of plastic. You can open the lid to see the same buttons inside, as well as some other elements. The largest is a trash can (or waste bin) that you can easily remove and empty by releasing the push button underneath. There is also a Reset button that you can use to reset your Trifi Lucy to factory settings; WiFi LED light and a USB-A charging port.

On the front of the gadget you will find the contact sensors and two cameras for day and night vision.

The bottom of Trifo Lucy contains the usual charging pins, a tracking sensor, a roller brush and a side brush.

What’s in the box

The first thing you notice about your Trifo Lucy is the high-quality packaging. While this vacuum isn’t cheap, you can clearly see what you’re paying your money for here. When unpacking you will find the following in the box:

  • Trifo Lucy robot vacuum cleaner
  • Charging station with charging cable
  • Removable water tank
  • Reusable microfiber pads (for wet mopping)
  • How to use the manual in a Trifo Lucy envelope

The weight of the whole package is about 13 lbs or 6 kg.

Cleaning performance

The main purpose of owning a robot vacuum cleaner is to forget about vacuuming and/or mopping your floors altogether, as the robovac can perform these processes automatically without your intervention. Before that happens, you need to set up and introduce your Trifo Lucy to your home environment.

Setup and Mapping

The installation process with Trifo Lucy is simple and comparable to other robot vacuum cleaners. Once you’ve unpacked Lucy, plug in the charger and charge your device using the charging dock. Meanwhile, you need to download the app, create an account and sync Trifo Lucy with your home Wi-Fi network. After Trifo Lucy is fully charged, open the app and start mapping your home.

Most mapping robot vacuums use laser-based LiDAR technology for mapping, while Lucy uses a camera to create a floor plan of your home. This technology is called Visual SLAM and is considered more thorough in capturing information about the robot’s environment. This means that Lucy’s ability to dodge objects in front of it is superior compared to those gadgets that use LiDAR.

Vacuuming and general cleaning

There are a few factors that make the Trifo Lucy a superior cleaning tool. It’s mainly the maximum suction power of 4000 Pa (with an average of 2700 Pa for most modern Robovacs) and a hefty 600 ml dustbin. Since the bin is not self-emptying, the large size means you only have to worry about emptying the bin once a week or so.

The combination of a rotating brush roll and a side brush will do a great job of cleaning the hard floors of your home, even on a standard vacuum setting. If you need Trifo Lucy to clear up big messes and pick up pet hair and dirt, you need to increase the suction power to the maximum. The same goes for cleaning carpets and area rugs. For deep cleaning, we also recommend enabling the edge cleaning feature in the app (Sweeping edgewise). It makes Lucy put in extra effort around the furniture and next to the walls.

Cleaning the Trifo Lucy itself is easy. Open the lid, remove and empty the trash can. Then turn your robovac over, remove the rolling brush and remove any tangled hairs. You can also wipe and clean the robot vacuum cleaner housing with a soft cloth.

The mop function

Trifo Lucy comes with a mopping function that allows wet cleaning. A handy feature when you spill something on your floor and need to clean the stain. However, the water tank for Trifo Lucy is only 100ml, which means you’ll probably need to top it up once or twice before Lucy covers your whole house. That’s not ideal if you want to fully automate your cleaning.

On the plus side, you get multiple reusable mopping pads that are easy to clean afterwards. Just remove the cloth and throw it in the washing machine. While the mop feature isn’t Trifo Lucy’s strongest suit, it still does a good job when it comes to mopping. And if you clean regularly, Lucy is perfectly capable of keeping your home clean and dust-free.

Low battery mode

You don’t have to worry about keeping your robot vacuum cleaner fully charged at all times. When the battery level drops to 15%, Trifo Lucy automatically returns to the docking station to charge. When fully charged, the robovac will resume cleaning as scheduled.

Software and Home Security Features

Trifo Lucy uses a mobile app called Trifo Home, where you can view all robot vacuum cleaner controls, create a cleaning schedule, and adjust other settings.

Trifo Home app

Once installed, the app asks for a default set of permissions, such as allowing notifications to be sent to your phone. That’s a handy one, and we recommend enabling it that way, Lucy can send you alerts if it catches an intruder in your house while you’re away.

Next, the app will ask you to create an account and add Lucy to the list of devices to get started.

Browsing through the settings, you’ll find different cleaning modes and the ability to schedule cleaning sessions, maintenance stats that show alerts in case any of the robotic vacuum cleaner parts need to be replaced, and Do Not Disturb (DND) mode to prevent Lucy from turning on while you’re sleeping , as well as cleaning history showing you the areas Lucy cleaned and the cleaning time.

After using the robovac for the first time, you’ll find a map in the app where you can name different zones of your home and create no-go zones that Lucy should avoid.

One of the most exciting features that Trifo Lucy has is manual control – you can load the video of your home and use the app to drive the robot vacuum cleaner around remotely. You can also record these images. To switch to manual operation, select Start video at the bottom of the app. This will open the camera and allow you to see your house from Lucy’s point of view.

In addition to recording this footage, you can switch between: Day and Night time vision and turn the microphone on and off.

Trifo Lucy: the security camera

Thanks to the motion detection function, you can use Trifo Lucy as a security camera. When motion detection is enabled, you’ll get a notification on your phone linked to the photo of what (or who) catches the robotic vacuum cleaner moving in front of the camera. This can be used to keep an eye on your home as well as to monitor your pets when you are away.

Speaking of pets, you can also use the built-in microphone to play with them remotely or (try to) calm them down if you see them messing around with the camera.

Should you buy the Trifo Lucy robot vacuum cleaner?

Trifo Lucy is not the perfect cleaning solution for every problem. If you are looking for the best combination of vacuum and mop, Trifo Lucy may not be the best choice for you, as the mop function is more of a minor addition here. However, there are plenty of reasons to buy Trifo Lucy.

If you have used a robotic vacuum cleaner before, such as Roborock or Roomba, you will be pleasantly surprised by Lucy’s different design, unique features and new capabilities. If you are a pet owner and want to keep an eye on your little furry friend while you are outdoors, Lucy is also an excellent choice for you. All in all, it is a powerful robot vacuum cleaner that provide a perfect gift for your loved ones or yourself.
